Rue de Rennes ApartmentApartment renovation
This project involved the refurbishment and decoration of a 35m² Parisian apartment (in the 6th arrondissement).

Originally the flat contained a living room, kitchen and small bathroom that hadn't been touched for a number of years. The clients wished to add value to their property by having a separate bedroom and this was only possible by moving the old kitchen and bathroom. A minimal separate toilet and bath, partly open to the bedroom, was installed and the washhand basin became part of the vanity unit in the bedroom.

The living room did not change in surface area but now incorporated the kitchen, built into a large cupboard, storage and bookshelves unit on one of the walls, making full use of the high ceiling. Mirrors were used to make the enclosed space feel larger. By keeping the finishes and materials usually associated with a living room, the presence of the kitchen does not feel too intrusive when not in use.

Parquet flooring was used throughout continuing as decking, on the same level, in a small courtyard at the rear. This is accessed from the bedroom by a large glazed door and enables the bedroom to feel much larger especially in the summer months when the doors can be open.

The choice of materials and the colour scheme of the decor have been put together to create a unified design. The overall effect completely changes the apartment from a gloomy pokey studio to a cosy two-roomed apartment.
