October 2010 in our Architectural Practice

Reid Brewin Architects continue in their role as site architect for this datacenter building in the North of Paris.

A few years on from the start of the project, the structural concrete work is now very visible from the railway nearby and the station opposite. We have assisted the client in the construction works with regular on-site inspections forming part of our role to monitor closely the architectural conformity of the project.

In this type of building a significant part of the works are concerned with the installation of the technical services. The services engineers have finally begun to see the fruits of their design, as seen in the image above. Standing in front of a very large water pipe is the Director from WSP Flack & Kurtz, one of our preferred partners.  They specialise in methods of presentation that improve the ease of understanding of the technical infrastructure and have been key in the design of the project at Clichy.

The chilled water system uses a stainless steel pipe because of its strength and ability to withstand internal pressure.  Stainless steel becomes a viable option for high rise structures and in industrial applications.  The use of stainless steel, instead of the more common mild steel, can also help reduce costs by reducing the quantity of chemical products needed to clean out the system thanks to its resistance to corrosion.

This project is for a new datacenter and is one of the largest projects carried out by our practice to date.
